Our Guiding Principle

Our Mission

Pregnant Mare Rescue (PMR) is committed to rescuing pregnant mares and orphan foals from abuse and advocating for the humane treatment of all horses through education while enriching the human experience.

Our commitment is rooted in the belief that every horse deserves dignity, gentleness, and a peaceful end of life.

Our Dedication

Who We Are

Founded nearly two decades ago, PMR is a volunteer-powered horse rescue and sanctuary dedicated to protecting the most vulnerable equines. We rescue and offer refuge to pregnant mares, new mothers, orphaned foals, and elderly horses who need a safe landing.

What We Do

Pregnant Mare Rescue (PMR) rescues pregnant mares and orphan foals from neglect, abuse, or risk of slaughter.

Our History

The Journey to Lifelong Sanctuary

The Evolution

Originally, our model was “rescue and rehome,” but after 15 years, we learned that rehoming is not always the best option for horses who have endured extreme workloads, human demands, or abuse. In 2015, we expanded our programs to offer lifelong sanctuary for horses unable to return to the industry.

Sanctuary Life

Today, our 8-acre sanctuary is home to 10 horses. Our herd lives naturally in family groups, with freedom and autonomy, and our programs honor the horses’ sovereignty in their relationships with humans. Through hands-on experiences and immersive education, we help people connect with our herd, fostering understanding, empathy, and respect while advocating for the humane treatment of all horses.

Looking Ahead: Collaboration with Beyond Liberty (BL)

After almost 20 years, PMR is entering an exciting new chapter in collaboration with Beyond Liberty (BL). While PMR remains dedicated to its core rescue mission, our partnership with BL opens the gates for greater community connection, nature-based education, and expanded equine welfare advocacy.

Together, PMR and BL create a shared environment where rescued and retired horses live freely, naturally, and at liberty—and where people can learn from, support, and experience the profound presence of horses in thoughtful, respectful ways.
